Stomach flu: The most common cause of these symptoms is a viral infection--gastroenteritis or stomach flu, which may include diarrhea. As long as the illness is not severe, it can be managed with ordinary otc medicines for the symptoms--peptobismol to calm the stomach, possible Pepcid or Prilosec for the acid, tylenol (acetaminophen) for stomach ache. For a female of this age, also consider pregnancy and its complications.
