will a torn glutus maximus muscle also cause nerve damage?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Estrada Bernard
37 years experience Neurosurgery
Not directly: The sciatic nerve runs deep to the gluteus maximus and piriformis muscles after the nerve exits the pelvis. An injury mechanism that causes injury to these muscles could conceivably impact the sciatic nerve as well. Otherwise , an injury to the gmax muscle does not necessarily "cause" nerve damage.

Unlikely: That a pinched nerve would cause this problem. You would probably benefit from a good neurologic and muscle function exam.
