Malanoma on the foot?

40 doctors weighed in across 14 answers

Hope not, but maybe: Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer killing many every year, however if caught early it is entirely curable. Sunburn increases & sunscreens (probably) reduce risk. Melanoma can occur anywhere on your skin, even on your foot; it does not need to arise from an existing mole. Given high cure rates if found early, your doctor should look at any suspicious lesion (and if doubt -> dermatologist!).

Melanoma: 15 years ago, the incidence of melanoma was one in 15, 000. Now it's 1 in 1500! it's one of the deadliest cancers. Given these numbers, any mole, new area of pigmentation, sore that doesn't heal absolutely must be evaluated for melanoma. Dr. Weiss is right!

Can happen: Any dark spot on the skin of the foot or rarely as a line in the nail may represent a melanoma. Especially if has not "always" bee there or if it changes in size or shape.

Don't wait: Yes, you can have a melanoma on your foot or anywhere on your body. Any new lesion should be checked out as soon as possible and this is especially true if it is a new lesion on the bottom of the foot. Generally, there are the ABCs (abacavir). Asymmetry, borders and color. If the lesion is asymmetrical, has irregular borders and color variations it makes it more suspicious. A biopsy may be needed.

Melanoma: This is a very serious skin cancer that needs immediate treatment. It is important to have a biopsy to confirm depth which then helps to determine treatment options.

Need more info: I need more information to answer accurately. Melanoma, both pigmented and non-pigmented, can be found on the foot, . Any abnormal skin or nail area should be evaluated by a physician and a scraping or biopsy considered. Melanoma is often fatal if diagnosed in it's later stages.

Malignant Cancer: Hello, Out of the three skin cancers noted along the lower extremity, Squamous Cell, Basal Cell, and Melanoma, Melanoma is a cancer that can metastasize to other parts of the body. A biopsy can reveal the depth and penetration ( see Clark levels) and the staging can determine the prognosis and survival. Time is of the essence and a multidisciplinary team will greatly augment treatment.

Not exactly: sure what you are asking. It is possible to get melanoma on the foot, if you have a new skin lesion there, see your dermatologist for an evaluation.
