Depends: Superficial burns just turn the skin red and are painful like a sunburn. Just apply a local anesthetic like solarcaine. If it blisters, it is a deeper burn and needs to be kept clean. I would not break the blisters but if they open then the loose skin should be pulled off and an antibiotic ointment like Bacitracin applied till it heals. A full thickness burn will turn white and not have any pain.
