No more than average: The challenges society poses on transsexuals must make adjustment difficult and many are probably quite stressed or even miserable at times - but there is no reason that they would have a greater risk of mental illness than the general population - certainly not severe psychosis at a higher rate. That said, i'm sure there are some with any condition, mental or other, that anyone can name.

NO Psychosis/Disordr: The current consensus is that identifying as female/male/neither/both when ur identification is not in keeping w/the gender u were assigned at birth does not mean u have a psychosis or mental disorder of any kind. // for perspective: being gay/lesbian/bisexual was officially deemed a mental disorder by the american psychiatric assn until 1973. Lack of understanding has caused terrible suffering.

Gender identity DO: Psychosis, by clinical definition is suffered by schizophrenics, schizoaffectives, and in some cases extreme depression or mania. Transsexuals are not typically psychotic whatsoever. They battle fear and depression for being born with gender opposite the one they believe they should have been. They then have to battle societal attitudes of ignorance, as well as those of people and family they know
