A member asked:

I'm probably getting a bone marrow transplant soon, i have aplastic anemia. will i lose my hair?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, temporarily: The conditioning or preparatory treatments using chemotherapy and total body radiation given before the transplant do cause hair loss. But the hair will grow back within 2-3 months. There are, at present no satisfactory means available to prevent hair loss due to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The cold cap is in clinical trials and may be available at some of the cancer centers.
