Many possibilities: What is the PLT count? Have their been interventions? What was the outcome? Head ultasound done? Most common cause of thrombocytopenia in a newborn is infection. However, neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia and maternal itp are considerations as are other more rare causes of thrombocytopenia from primary synthetic dysfunction of the marrow. Evaluation by a hematology/oncology dr. Is warranted.
