Above or below knee: Decide level of amputation necessary. Mark is made on skin at level femur, or tibia & fibula need to be divided. Skin flaps marked for closure over stump. Tourniquet applied to minimize bleeding.Skin is cut with scalpel thru flap marks. Major arteries & veins identified & tied off. Muscles cut at level of amputation w cautery. Saw bone(s) at desired level. Insert bone wax at bone end. Suture skin.
