Tolerable: Most patients have this done laparoscopically (small incisions via a thin 5 mm camera) and go home right away. They feel sore and return to work/school after 24 hours. Often the gas (co2) causes more discomfort and women feel shoulder pain (referred pain from the gas irritating your diaphragm) and body soreness. Tylenol (acetaminophen) & advil usually works but have Codeine as a back-up just in case.

No!: Not the salpingectomy, rather the surgery incisions that will be uncomforatble for a few days.

Some: All surgery involves some pain. Postoperative pain depends on the size of the incision and the amount of surgery performed. Salpingectomies can almost always be performed with minimally invasive surgery (robot or traditional laparoscopy) with small incisions and minimal internal tissue trauma. Most women require minimal pain meds and often only ibuprofen.
