No/Yes?!: The answer hinges on culturing the infected anatomy or fluid, in the right clinical setting. If the culture grows staph. Areus, it is a staph infection. If no cultures are done, then yes- certain infections such as cellulitis, can be due to strept but are presumptively diagnosed as staph. An experienced doctor in certain situations, can make this distinction.
