How are group b streptococcal infections spread?

Normal skin bacteria: Group b strep is a common bacteria which grows on our skin. We screen for gbs in pregnancy around the vaginal and rectal area but it can grow on the skin anywhere. It is not transmitted or spread from person to person as it is a normal bacterial flora.

Depends: Group b strep spreads to baby during vaginal delivery if exposed to or swallows fluids with strep.Group b strep often carried in your intestines or lower genital tract.Gr b strep is usually harmless in adults except older individuals.Pneumonia, meningitis, blood stream infection in infants.Uti , infection of placenta and uterus in pregnant women.Skin, blood, uti, bone, lung occurs in older adults.
