A member asked:

What risk factors are associated with type 1 diabetes and what is the usual age of onset?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Any age: The only significant risk factor for type 1 diabetes is a history of autoimmune disease in the family. There are no risk factors that you can modify. Type 1 diabetes typically occurs in children and young adults, but can occur at any age (which is why we don't call it "juvenile diabetes" anymore).
