What causes a painfully sore throat on one side.

Infection: Throat pain usually signals the invasion of these structures by a germ, usually viral but sometimes bacterial. This could be a simple passing virus that self heals, or something as bad as an abscess that may need surgical drainage. Depending on how you feel, a visit to have it evaluated my be prudent.
