A member asked:

Are there any genetic links to make one prone to having acute disseminated encephalomyelitis? why does this occur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Susceptibility: Adem is classically a mono phasic illness in children following a viral infection or vaccination, and is considered a secondary autoimmune reaction to the inciting original problem. Unlikely to ever occur again, and does not represent initial ms. There are genetic susceptibilities to this disorder, but not a true hereditary disorder at all.
