Surgically: This is an anatomic abnormality that once formed, doesn't go away on its own. Small ones may not cause any symptoms. Larger ones can. They can be treated by advanced endoscopic techniques and/or surgery.

Surgical: As noted, in appropriate candidates, treatment is surgical. In proper candidates, tran-soral endoscopic stapling is first line therapy. In failed endoscopic stapling approach, or poor candidates for endoscopic approach, myotomy and diverticulectomy is performed through a left neck incision.
