Not usually: A lot depends on examination. The xray itself is not painful. if examination involves injection of contrast obviously the pain of a needle. If fluoroscopic exam such as enema then there is some discomfort. In most cases technicians and doctors try to make you as comfortable as possible.

No: Xrays are not painful. Getting positioned to get the right xray picture can be uncomfortable or painful.
