Cerebral contusion: Cerebral contusion is the result of a blunt force trauma to the head, which causes swelling of the region of the brain nearest to the impact. This swelling interferes with normal mental function in various ways. While it can cause a significant headache, mild contusions require only rest, fluids, and antiinflammatory medications for the headache. Severe symptoms could require cortisone or surgery.
