What is fundal height?

Dr. Jeff Livingston answered

Top of the uterus: Fundal height refers to the location of the top of your uterus. This is a quick and easy way to confirm that the uterus is growing normally. We start at the top of the pubic bone and use the tape measure to locate the top of the uterus. After 20 weeks this distance in centimeters roughly equals your gestational age. Ex: 28 CM fundal height = 28 weeks gestation.

No effect on height: Smoking does not affect one's height. Studies have found that smokers on average tend to be a slightly thinner than non-smokers, but there is no difference in height.

How to increase your height?

Dr. Joshua Batt answered

You can't: Unfortunately there is not a lot you can do to affect height as this is predominantly in the genes you receive from your parents. The best thing you can do is eat a healthy diet in your youth so that you have the proper nutrients to grow.

A 48-year-old member asked:
How do I know if my fundal height is right?
1 doctor answer • 3 doctors weighed in

Dr. Moritz Bartels answered
Obstetrics and Gynecology 21 years experience
Plus/minus 2cm: The fundal height should not vary more than two centimeters from what your gestational age is at the time. Your doctor would probably order an ultrasound to assess the situation further it you are lagging behind or measuring ahead.

How to measure fundal height?

Dr. Karen Jones answered

Measuring tape: Use the centimeter side and measure from the middle of the pubic bone (place the zero there) to the top of the curve of the uterus. In general the number of centimeters is about the number of weeks once beyond about 15 weeks.
