Pre-pregnancy: Eat a healthy diet, low in bad fats, rich in brightly colored fruits & veggies, leafy greens, lean meat, calcium-rich foods like dairy/yogurt /cheese; drink plenty of fluids; exercise regularly to maintain muscle tone & general health; take prenatal vitamins to assure an adequate intake of Folic Acid to prevent certain deformities resulting from folate (folic acid) deficiency.
