How come i hear footsteps when i go to sleep?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normal: We can experience what are called hypnagogic hallucinations during the transition into sleep. The auditory hallucinations can vary from loud noises or banging, a doorbell ringing or hearing your name being called. It is also possible to have visual hallucinations.
