Sore throat: Some of the more common things that lead to a persistent sore throat include allergies, sinus infection and reflux. A persistent cold would be unusual, but if you have had back-to-back viral infections, this could explain it, too. You could have strep throat or tonsillitis. You could have viral or bacterial pharyngitis. You could even have tonsillolith or tonsil stones that you can see.
