A member asked:

Is mirena (levonorgestrel) effective for period control? any side effects? does it affect sex life?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, no, no: Cycles much lighter and 35% chance of no cyles (still safe). Very minimal reports of adverse effects, like wt gain or mood changes. These are probable more related to stopping the previous form of contraception. Only effect on sex is also rare, and that is real or percieved event of partner feeling the string. This can be treated by the person who placed it.
