Heart murmur: Heart murmur is a sound made by turbulent blood flow in the heart, in and of itself it has no symptoms. When the murmur is caused by a significant functional abnormality, that may have symptoms.
Dr. Steven Neish
Pediatric Cardiology 38 years experience
None: Heart murmur is a finding on physical examination, not a diagnosis or a symptom. Heart murmur means that blood flow makes noise when listening to the chest. Heart murmurs can be due to normal blood flow or due to a heart problem.

None, really: A murmur is a sound from flow in the heart. It can come from a lot of reasons. Symptoms, or how you feel, depend on what is actually going on with your heart. Lots of murmurs are totally normal. When you see your doctor, start with how you are doing or feeling, and if there is any change from before. This will help in the interpretation of your physical signs, like a murmur (if any). Be well!

How common is a childhood heart murmur to be still there in adulthood?

Dr. Tiffanie Noonan

Cause?: That question can't be answered without knowing the cause of the murmur. "Murmur" just means a sound that we hear - it can be caused by many things including a small hole in the heart, heart valve issues, anemia, or just the blood flow through the vessels (innocent). An innocent murmur tends to "come and go" and often disappear completely. A hole might close. Anemia can resolve. Learn the cause.

Dr. Roberto Rodriguez

Variable: Mvp can lead to mitral regurgitation and this causes a murmur. Symptoms are variable, depending on the severity. Mvp most commonly is asymptomatic but sometimes causes palpitations. If you are having any symptoms, you should have an echocardiogram to evaluate the valve and severity.
