What is the recovery like after cabg?

Depends: It depends on your age and general health. Young healthy people are home in 4 days, driving in 6 weeks after sternotomy or 1 week after mini-thoracotomy. Expect diminished appetite, fatigue, sore chest improving rapidly over 4-8 weeks. Full recovery after 6 weeks but some residual soreness for 6 months.

Excellent: Once patient leaves the hospital after bypass surgery, the recovery is almost always unevenful! pts need to start cardiac rehab asap for quicker recovery. Most of my pts are back to work in 6-8 wks.
