Maxillary: You may have damaged a branch of your trigeminal nerve, just below the eye. Typically there is little to do but wait for nerve recovery. As the nerve recovers, there is often tingling, or jolts and such. Best of luck in speedy recovery.!

It's bruising of the: Facial or trigeminal nerve causing the numbness. I agree with your dr. Apply warm packs and take nsaids to facilitate healing. Take care!
