Confusing: It can be difficult to interpret a bacterial culture result from the vagina, because it has a lot of bacteria that live there normally. Streptococcus strains can be considered normal colonizers of the vagina. It's just hard to determine what's causing lots of discharge sometimes. Penicillins will (can) disrupt the normal vaginal bacterial and yeast populations- and may cause 'yeast' infections.
