Variable: Some people with rectal prolapse will have pain with bowel movements, most will have occasional bright red blood from the rectum due to irritation of the prolapsed rectal mucosa, and many will have soiling or a mucous type discharge from the prolapse. Stool softeners and increased fiber in the diet may help, but significant rectal prolapse often requires surgical correction.

Hemorrhoid?: Sometimes hemorrhoids can be misdiagnosed as prolapse, in which prep h or other otc med can help. Otherwise the process will not self correct if chronic and will require surgery. A urogyn or colorectal surgeon are the docs you would see for this.
