Treat cause.: Best option is to treat underlying cause. If cause is chronic pulmonary embolus, treatment is anticoagulation. If cause is chronic hypoxia treatment is oxygen, and maybe cpap. If the cause is a heart valve or structural heart disease then repair is the best bet. For those without a clear cause diuretics, oxygen, exercise and Coumadin (warfarin) are often recommended.
