Are some people more prone to getting laryngitis?

Yes: Overuse of the voice, having reflux, or inhaling things that irritate the vocal cords such as marijuana, cigarettes. Some infections can cause larygitis (usually viral) and some feel rheumatoid arthritis patient can get it as well.
