X-Linked Recessive: G6pd (deficiency) is inherited through an x-linked recessive pattern. Since males only have one x-chromosome, they only require one altered copy of the gene to result in g6pd deficiency. Since females have two copies, both would have to be altered to produce the same outcome (a much rarer event). Therefore, males are affected much more frequently.

X-linked recessive:: Women have 2 copies of the gene; if one is defective, the other one takes over, and they are not sick. Men only have one copy of the gene, which they always get from their mother; so a healthy carrier mother can have an affected son, or a healthy carrier daughter.

X-linked. : The g6pd gene is on the x chromosome. Boys have one, which they inherit from their mom. Girls get one from mom and one from dad, so they have two. If mom is a carrier, then 50% of her sons will have deficiency. In daughters of men with g6pd deficiency, or moms who are carriers, 50% will be carriers. It is possible for a girl to have disease, but very rare because carrier mom and affected dad mate.
