Normal diet: Ten percent or more of men in some demographics have some g6pd deficiency. Seldom causes much trouble. Depending on the severity of the allele, your physician might suggest a few foods to avoid. Fava beans have historically been the worst troublers. You'll find long lists of "forbidden foods" online and i'd urge you to ignore these and get accurate, no-fear-mongering advice from his physician.

Breast or Formula: Breast milk is best, but commercial formulas are fine for babies with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Sulfa drugs, acetaminophen, and anti-malarial medications should be avoided, and as the child ages, fava beans must not be eaten and other legumes should be introduced with caution. Vitamin c, 60-100 mg/day, can help preserve glutathione in this condition.
