Not genetic: Whipple disease is an extremely rare bacterial disease characterized by joint pain, abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, fatty-stools and profound weight loss. It is thought to be caused by bacteria-like critter called tropheryma whipplei, along with a few other possibilities. It is treated with long-term antibiotics and has a recurrence rate of about 10%. It's can be fatal without treatment.
