A member asked:

There are small ashy white patches on my skin that a doctor told me is from the sun. i don't believe it's that or vitiligo, they turn red when warm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pityriasis alba: Pityriasis alba is a common form of eczema which causes dry, blotchy white patches on the skin. Scented products and some sunscreen ingredients may cause flareups. It is usually treated with mild topical steroids and moisturizers and can take number of weeks to months to improve. Use only unscented sensitive products as well. See a dermatologist to see if this is what you have.
