A member asked:

Is a baby born at 5lbs severly underweight, what could be the causes? risks for future?

Gestational age?: You don't mention how far along you were. If you were term (37+ weeks), 5 pounds is small but not what i would call "severely underweight". Usually there was some reason for poor placental blood flow, and baby didn't grow as much. Good news is these kids do great and the baby will likely gain weight quickly if otherwise healthy. If you are a smoker, would suggest smoking cessation - good for both.
