Depends: If you are having symptoms from your gallstone, then your pcp or GI doctor will refer you to a general surgeon to evaluate you and determine if your gallbladder can safely be removed. Many people have gallbladder stones and don't have symptoms, and therefore there is no need to remove it. You can live without your gallbladder, as it is a storage for bile that helps with digestion.
