75%: Both methods are about 75-85% effective. Proper condom use increases their effectiveness, including applying the condom before penetration. Here's a good website with this info: http://www.Plannedparenthood.Org/health-topics/birth-control/birth-control-effectiveness-chart-22710.Htm.

For what?: Condoms are much more effective than withdrawal (pulling out) in preventing sexually transmitted infections.

1 good the other not: Condoms when used correctly are about 96-98% effective and if used with spermicide can be 98-99% effective. "pulling out" or withdrawal is not really considered birth control as it is so ineffective.
