Depends: Most endoscopiests administer their own sedation (at least here in indianapolis) but some places tend to use an anesthesiologist for giving and monitoring sedation, you need to ask your endoscopist.

Colonoscopy: It depends on the state and the institution where service is performed. In many places a board certified nurse anesthetist provides the sedation under the supervision of an anesthesiologist that also covers another 2-3 endoscopy rooms. The sedation differs between nurse anesthetist and ordinary rn, primarily because of propofol. The recovery from Propofol is much quicker than midazolam/fentanyl
