Not always: Sometimes an ekg can't detect an arrhythmia. A patient must be experiencing the rhythm disturbance when the ekg is performed. There are other methods to detect arrhythmias such as a holter monitor or an event monitor. Check with your primary provider if your condition warrants this test.
