Are you sure ?: Are you sure it is a canker sore ? It just may be that you are cheek biting in that area from teeth that have a really good fit together. Canker sores should not last more than two weeks. If this persists, see your dentist for a bite adjustment. In the meantime, take very small bites and chew slowly.

Topical anesthetic: The topical anesthetics available over the counter help to remove the pain for about 5-10 minutes. I would recommend using the topical prior to eating and going to sleep. Try applying with a q-tip.The canker sore should heal in about 7-10 days.
