Lymphedema: If it is purely lymphedema, and not edema caused by other things, is a difficult condition to treat. First, see a doctor to make sure that it is not thrombophlebitis. Then elevation, compression stockings, reducing sodium intake are all partial solutions. Good luck.

Specialists needed: If you have swelling that pits, is uniform including the foot and had brown, black or purple discoloration, you do not have lymphedema but rather vein disease. Lymphedema occurs when there is a block of lymphatic circulation. This is a lobular, irregular thick swelling. Treatmnt of both is somewhat different but you need to get to a full time woiund care doc with lymphedema expertise to see.
