Use IV sedation: It is very difficult to predict if only local dental anesthetic will be sufficient to remove wisdom teeth. Use IV sedation to be safe that you will not experience pain.

Impaction/Surgical?: You will for sure need local anesthesia. If the removal is a surgical extraction that may require soft tissue reflection, sectioning of a tooth, and some bone removal, you may want to be sedated (either conscious sedation/moderate sedation or general anesthesia/deep sedation). Much depends on what you will want to experience. If pressure, staying open, noises, etc. Are difficult, then sedation.

Talk to Dentist: Most dental procedures can be done under local anesthesia with a cooperative patient. If there are especially challenging then some sedation might be indicated. It is rare that a full general anesthetic would be needed for dental procedures. If you have concerns please contact your dentist and discuss these fears with him. Good luck.
