Possible biopsy: If the surgeon feels the lesion requires a biopsy, that will be done. A canker sore is different from a lesion that might need further evaluation. Let your oral surgeon decide what is best for you.

Aphthous Ulcers: Personally, if the aphthous ulcer is causing a great deal of pain, then i laser treat it. I similarly treat hsv (cold sores) at early stages to speed resolution and decrease sensitivity. Palliative treatment is all that really can be done. If lesion is something other than "canker sore", observation and/or biopsy might be recommended.
