If vascular, varicose veins or deep venous clots may be responsible on the venous side and arterial insufficiency may be another cause. This is usually relieved with ambulation and dependency of the extremity. Various chemical imbalances can cause cramping. Occasionally this can be symptoims associated with diabetes.
