I have a small lump, maybe a little less than an inch long, on the left of my abdomen, next to my rib cage. it does not hurt. should i be concerned?

How long?: If it has been there for long time it is probably benign such as q cyst or fatty tumor. If it is recent there are other possibilities which would require a minor biopsy for a definite diagnosis and treatment.
