Confusing question: An adult can test positive for pertussis after receiving the normal childhood pertussis vaccines.The immunity to the childhood series can weaken over time & today many adults get the tdap (acellular pertussis with tetanus & diphtheria booster) to reduce their risk of bring pertussis home to a newborn.
