Variety of problems: Depending on the patient's immune system, infections with amoebas can cause conditions such as liver abscesses (entamoeba histolytica) from unwashed hands (less common now with better sanitation) and keratitis (acanthamoeba) from contaminated contact lens solution, to catastrophes such as meninigitis and brain abscesses (naegleria fowlerii, balamuthia mandrillaris) through inhalation of cysts.
