Inflammation: Achilles's tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon at the bottom, back of the leg - what connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. It can be caused by overuse, such as walking or running, or from athletics. It is often treated with relative rest, anti-inflammatories and physical therapy.

Insertional or not: Achilles tendonitis comes in two major flavors; insertional (where the tendon connects to the bone) or non-insertional ( in the mid-substance of the tendon). The initial treatments are similar. This is usually rice, activity modification, and regular stretching exercises, sometimes combined with a heel lift.
