A member asked:

My 78 year old father has been diagnosed with myelodysplasia. how is treated and what is the survival rate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unfortunately poor: If the diagnosis is correct, as this was previously called a pre-leukemia, it has a rather poor prognosis in the older people, a survival rate of 30-50% in 3 years. You must be under a hematologist's care and he will determine course of therapy and based on blood counts he can give you a better survival rate.
