Depends: It depends on many factors-when the infection occurred, whether there were symptoms/active lesions during the birth process, whether mom was treated. It is routine to screen for hiv, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis b, and syphilis during pregnancy and to treat both the diseases and the baby accordingly. For herpes, it is not uncommon to have a c-section if there are any active lesions.
