Relationship limits: I'm not quite sure, but it sounds like you may be wondering about the limits of an appropriate relationship between psychologist & patient? Similar limits pertain to psychiatrist & patient also. These relationships are for the purpose of dealing with the patient's stated psychological/psychiatric problems. Although mutual warmth may arise, social or dating relationships are off limits.

Once you begin work : With a psychologist, they are your doctor and the relationship remains a professional one forever. It is not a friendship and there are strict guidelines to keep the relationship professional at all times. The psychologist is required to keep your information confidential unless you are dangerous to yourself or others and for billing to your insurance company if you choose to use insurance.
